about

Volume three of a four part series.

I recently found a crumpled paper bag of cassette tapes that I previously thought was lost forever. Covered in dust, some were completely disintegrated, others were unplayable as the wheels were stuck, and none were labeled (of course).

The few that survived their existence in complete isolation since 1996 are collected in this series of mixes and recordings crafted in bygone basements and bedrooms. From what I can remember, all were created using a Roland / BOSS SP-202 sampler, Roland / BOSS DR-202 drum machine, Novation BassStation, processed using a ZOOM 9002 guitar effects processor (this unit was really what got me into playing guitar in the first place), and recorded and edited on a Tascam Portastudio with the occasional sample sourced from VHS tape.

No computers connected to flatscreen displays or hard disks were used. Each recorded track was performed and ultimately mixed in one pass, without the ability to infinitely copy & paste. I've titled this series of releases "XLIIS90 - The Cassette Archives" because as you can see by the cover art, I always used Maxell XLIIS90 cassettes to record my work back then. I just really liked them for some now forgotten reason.

These tracks are the earliest BLUSKREEN recordings, before the project even had a name. Be advised the sound quality is definitely lacking and some of the performances are a mess (and went on entirely too long). That being said, I hope you enjoy these pieces as much as I did creating them.
